Nervous patients
We understand — many people feel anxious about the dentist
You're not alone
Dental anxiety is very common
A significant number of people in the UK feel nervous about visiting the dentist — some avoid it altogether for years. Whatever has made you anxious, whether it is a previous bad experience, a fear of pain, or simply not knowing what to expect, you are in good company and there is no judgement here.
Our team at Seven Dental has worked with many anxious patients and we know that feeling heard and in control makes a real difference. From the moment you call to book, we are here to make things easier.
You can also find information about registering and your first appointment on our new patients page.
Before your appointment
Tell us when you book
When you call or book online, simply mention that you feel nervous about dental visits. That one piece of information helps our team prepare for your appointment properly — we can allow extra time so there is no pressure to hurry, and make a note so that every member of staff who sees you that day knows in advance.
There is no need to explain yourself in detail or feel embarrassed. A brief mention is enough — we will take it from there.
At your appointment
We go at your pace
-
Arrive and settle in
Come in a few minutes early if you like and let reception know you are feeling nervous. There is no rush. Take a seat and let us know when you feel ready.
-
A conversation first
Your dentist will start with a chat — no instruments, no surprises. We want to understand your concerns and explain exactly what we are going to do before we do anything.
-
Plain explanations throughout
We will describe every step in plain language as we go. If you want to know what an instrument is or what we are looking at, just ask — there are no silly questions.
-
You can stop at any time
If you need a moment, raise your hand and we will pause immediately. You are always in control of what happens. There is no obligation to continue if you are not comfortable.
Our approach
A gentle examination
A routine dental check-up involves the dentist looking at your teeth, gums, and the soft tissues in your mouth. We use small mirrors and a light to see clearly — nothing that puts pressure on your teeth unless treatment is needed.
We explain what we are looking at as we examine. If we find anything that needs attention, we will talk you through the options in plain English before any treatment is agreed. You will never be pressured into treatment you are not ready for.
If you need an injection, we apply a surface numbing gel first and give the anaesthetic very slowly to minimise any sensation. We will always check you are numb before proceeding.
