What is Tooth Removal?
Tooth Removal consists of extracting irreperably damaged or decayed teeth.
Your dentist will make every effort to restore the tooth before considering tooth extraction.
Why would I need Tooth Removal?
There are several reasons you may need a tooth to be removed:
- Tooth Decay
- Gum Disease
- Irreperable Damage
- Crowded Teeth
- An Abscess
- Wisdom Teeth
What to Expect?
You should expect your dentist to do the following:
- Ask you about your medical history
- Ask you about your dental history
- Ask you about any pain or discomfort you have been experiencing
- Advise the best course of action
- If necessary, carry out the tooth removal under local anaesthetic
Will it hurt?
You should not feel pain during the procedure but you may feel some pressure.
What to do after Tooth Removal?
- For the first 24 hours, avoid hot food and drinks
- For the first 24 hours, avoid rinsing your mouth, with or without mouthwash
- After 24 hours, gently rinse your mouth with warm salt water after each meal
- If the socket bleeds, apply pressure by biting down on a clean, rolled up handkerchief placed over the affected area until bleeding stops
- Take painkillers if needed
- Try to eat softer foods for a few days until your used to chewing with your remaining teeth
- Brush gently with a soft toothbrush, taking special care to not disrupt the blood clot in the socket
- Take any antibiotics you've been prescribed as instructed
